Cleaning Rod Iron

There are several different ways to give wrought iron a deep cleaning but one of the safest and most effective methods is to use diluted vinegar.

If there are rust stains but no flakes dip a very fine steel wool pad into kerosene and brush out the stains. If your wrought iron outdoor chairs have any cushions on it then you will have to remove them and clean them separately. Scrub the wrought iron with a dry wire brush. The most important thing to know about cleaning cast iron skillets meaning non enameled is that you should not use soap soak it in water overnight or put it in the dishwasher.

Go over the wrought iron with a dry paintbrush to remove any tiny rust flakes or dirt. Be sure to continue dipping the sponge or cloth in your water bucket to clean the sponge as you rinse the wrought iron. Wipe the wrought iron again to rinse off the cleaning solution and dirt. Dip a clean sponge or cloth into your reserved bucket of water.

Routine cleaning of wrought iron is really not much different than cleaning any household surface. Fill a small bucket up with 2 parts water and 1 part white distilled vinegar. Cleaning wrought iron 1 create a mixture of liquid castile soap or any other vegetable based soap in a bowl. Start by scrubbing the rust lightly with a wire brush.

Instead use very hot water and a mild non abrasive sponge to clean the pan after each use. Scrub hard enough to remove any rust flakes but be careful not to scratch the paint unless the rust is so bad that the furniture needs repainting. Move a garden hose near the wrought iron you wish to clean or move the wrought near a garden hose. Doing any of these things can ruin its natural seasoning.

A teaspoon of the soap mixed with the water should suffice. If neither is an option fill a second bucket with plain water to use for rinsing. Soak a towel in the solution ring it out and then use it to scrub down your wrought iron balusters and railing. This will remove any loose or flaking rust.

Use a mild mixture of water and dish soap to clean all surfaces. Step 3 fill a large bucket with water and add three squirts of mild dish soap like ivory or dawn. Use dishwashing soap after cleaning off the dirt you will need to wash your wrought iron door using dishwashing soap water. Now use a brush or cloth to clean your iron door thoroughly.

Rinse the wrought iron. First fill your bucket with about a gallon of hot water and then mix it with about cup of dishwashing detergent.
