Clean Sticky Rubber Grip

The grips on the camera had become sticky.

I pulled out the camera several times over the last year and every time my hand stuck to the grips. I put it back in the case and stuck it back in the closet. Murphy s oil soap and done. Step 2 dip a cleaning rag or mop into the soapy water.

Once the isopropyl starts to dry and you find that the cloth is sticking to the rubber it s time to add another layer of isopropyl. Like 50 year old tyres using alchohol will merely disolve and strip the top liquid rubber layer off back to the still rigid rubber underlayer. If the sticky damaged surface remains mix some baking soda with water to create a thick paste that is about the consistency of toothpaste. Dampen a wash cloth with hot water and wring out excess water dampen wash cloth with oil soap full strength and clean remote or sticky plastic.

Upon some research i found the rubber coating on the grips deteriorate over time. Fill the sink or a cleaning bucket with about 1 gallon of water and 1 tbsp. The top surface is effected 1st which then deepens and deepens until you could wipe the entire rubber off with cloth after 25 years. Again use fresh clean rags for each application allowing to dry rinsing with water between each application.

Use a clean section of the cloth each time. Rubbing alcohol can be used as well but should be used with caution as it can cause damage to some rubber surfaces. Tried dish detergent but that just pushed the sticky around. Rinse wash cloth then wipe remote repeat should be free of any sticky.
